The Republic Won. Why The Electoral College Matters

The Founding Fathers' faith in "We The People" has been restored. Our eight year nightmare is over in sixteen days!

It’s not The U.S. of California & New York

Events over the past eight years had left me feeling very troubled but thankfully, the Republic won. The Republic was under assault and our Constitution was being trampled every day by those sworn to defend and protect it. I wondered, had the federal government finally crossed the line of no return? I should have instinctively known that whenever “We The People” are pushed to the brink, the people push back. And so they did on November 8, 2016.

The Democrats are in a complete state of denial. The party elites spent the election season collectively dismissing the chances of a President Trump as “slim to none.” They laughed whenever someone suggested Trump could actually win. Who’s laughing now?

Rather than look inward to understand the reasons the American People rejected the policies of the past eight years, the Democrats look instead for excuses. The Political Left hammered Trump for not conceding defeat before the votes were even cast when Chris Wallace asked if Trump would accept the election night results. Hillary hammered Trump, calling his unwillingness to embrace the peaceful transition of power “an assault on Democracy itself.”

After the morning after, it turns out that those on the Left are the ones assaulting our constitutional system of representative democracy. First, the Left trotted out “But Hillary received more votes.” When Trump charged that more than three million illegals voted in California alone, the Left asked him to show proof. Yet, there is no such effort on the part of the Left to show any evidence at all that the Russians were behind the DNC leak of emails. Julian Assange has repeatedly denied that the DNC emails and those from Podesta were acquired by the Russians. That doesn’t seem to matter to the Left. The only thing that matters to them is their effort to delegitimize the Trump presidency.

Back to the popular vote red herring. The most recent tallies indicate that Hillary Clinton received 2.8 million more votes nationally then Donald J. Trump. Mrs. Clinton received nearly 4,000,000 more votes in the state of California alone than Mr. Trump. In fact, if all the votes cast in just Los Angeles county and New York City were discarded, Mr. Trump won the popular vote in the rest of the country by 1.8 million votes. Hillary Clinton lost because she was a horrible candidate. End of story.

It is called the United States of America, not the United Urban Cities of Boston, New York, Philadelphia, Chicago, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Seattle etc. Each and every state is sovereign unto itself and its people. The Electoral College is the most brilliant device created by the Founding Fathers. In it’s simplicity, the Electoral College guarantees that the power of the states in our federal republic would be honored. It is the duty of the federal government to protect and serve the states and their people. It is NOT the states and the people who are to serve the federal government.

Perhaps if children were taught the Constitution of the United States in elementary school, the way it used to be taught, the left would get it. Of course, I wouldn’t hold my breath waiting for that to happen. And don’t expect the states to ever ratify an amendment to the constitution doing away with the Electoral College. I’d rather support California’s desire to secede from the Union. Only this time, the country should let them go without a fight. Bid the Golden State, with their illegals, their debt and their crazy social ideas, a fond farewell.
